About Me

My name is Ritwik Gupta and I am an Assistant Professor in Computer Science at the University of Maryland, with a joint appointment in the AI Interdisciplinary Institute (starting July 2026). My research focus is on computer vision for chaotic environments, as well as the governance of dual-use AI in both civil and defense contexts.

I am finishing up my post-doc at the University of California, Berkeley with Aditi Krishnapriyan, working on AI for Cryo-EM and machine learning force fields. I did my Ph.D. at Berkeley AI Research (BAIR) where I was co-advised by Drs. Trevor Darrell and Shankar Sastry.

I am part of the Berkeley Risk and Security Lab (BRSL) the Berkeley Institute for Security and Governance.

I conduct open-source investigations as a Research Fellow at Berkeley’s Human Rights Center.

Outside of Berkeley, I serve as the Technical Director for Autonomy for the Defense Innovation Unit.
